Cheltenham Day 1 - R&S Selections

Four Grade 1 jumps races highlight the card and you can find all your Cheltenham form right here.

RACE 1 - The biggest week of the year for jumping begins with a likely Irish domination in the Supreme. TULLYHILL (12) got off the mark at Naas on second hurdle outing prior to a 9L victory in a 3200m Listed Novice Hurdle at Punchestown. Represents leading connections and rates a major player. FIREFOX (3) won at Fairyhouse before a fair fourth attempting the 4000m G1 Lawlor's of Naas Novice Hurdle at Naas. Back down in trip and rates a main danger. MYSTICAL POWER (8) holds an unbeaten record to date following a 7L success in the 3400m G2 Moscow Flyer Novice Hurdle at Punchestown during January. Big chance. SLADE STEEL (9) was a Navan G2 Novice Hurdle winner over 4000m before a runner-up effort in this grade at Leopardstown. Not to be dismissed.

RACE 2 - IL ETAIT TEMPS (5) won the Irish version of this event by a neck attempting the 3400m G1 Irish Arkle Novice Chase at Leopardstown. Leading player. GAELIC WARRIOR (3) beat the main selection two runs ago at Limerick delivering a 5.5L success in the 3800m G1 Faugheen Novice Chase on testing ground. Placed past two Cheltenham Festivals and rates highly. FOUND A FIFTY (2) scored by 1.5L at Leopardstown tackling the top level over Christmas before a smart neck second behind the top pick last month. Holds every chance once more. QUILIXIOS (10) won the 2021 G1 Triumph Hurdle here and is a last start Naas novice chase winner. Interesting.

RACE 3 - MEETINGOFTHEWATERS (7) posted a convincing 4.5L success tackling a 4800m Listed handicap chase at Leopardstown over Christmas before unseating the rider at the first fence there among G3 company last month. Serious player set to bounce back. THE GOFFER (6) was a good fourth in this race last year. Likely aimed for this event after a flat success last month at Punchestown. Makes for appeal. STUMPTOWN (4) was a winner by 5L in a lower level 5000m handicap chase here on the New Course New Years Day. Shortlist. May follow up. WEVEALLBEENCAUGHT (22) is a previous winner at this track and holds each-way claims.

RACE 4 - Previous Cheltenham Festival winner STATE MAN (6) was 9L runner-up in this event last year and the seven-year-old may go one place better. Last seen scoring by 5.5L the G1 Irish Champion Hurdle tackling this trip at Leopardstown and is the one to beat. IRISH POINT (3) could be a main danger after a win by 11L tackling the 4600m G1 Christmas Hurdle at Leopardstown. First visit to Cheltenham and makes for plenty of appeal back down in journey. NOT SO SLEEPY (5) won the rescheduled G1 Fighting Fifth Hurdle at Sandown in December. Could prove best of the British runners. IBERICO LORD (2) was a winner of a 3200m premier handicap hurdle at Newbury. Interesting for previous track and trip victory.

RACE 5 - LOSSIEMOUTH (6) looks one of the strongest Irish runners of the week at Cheltenham. This grey mare was a good winner twelve months back attempting the G1 Triumph Hurdle at the Festival before winning at the top level again at Punchestown. Made a successful return here in January scoring by 9.5L the G2 International Hurdle over 3400m. Hard to beat. G1 winner ASHROE DIAMOND (1) found success attempting the 3400m G2 Yorkshire Rose Mares Hurdle at Doncaster. Highly talented and may go close. ECHOES IN RAIN (2) was a good fourth in this race last year. Often does well. Shortlist. Runner-up in this contest last year LOVE ENVOI (7) finished second to the main selection here in January. Not to be discounted.

RACE 6 - LARK IN THE MORNIN (15) showed plenty of ability at Punchestown finishing a smart third in a 3200m maiden hurdle during January. Maintains promising hurdle record so far and makes for appeal. Multiple Grade 2 placegetter MILAN TINO (7) travelled from France posting a decent third among G2 company here over 3400m. Could go close again. BATMAN GIRAC (3) went well at Leopardstown when fourth in a G2 juvenile hurdle attempting this journey Boxing Day. Open to further improvement and could play a role racing for top connections. LIARI (1) arrives unbeaten hurdling in the UK including a pair of Listed wins. Holds claims.

RACE 7 - Irish runner CORBETTS CROSS (1) makes for plenty of appeal having produced a strong 6L second attempting a 4800m G1 Novice Chase at Leopardstown two runs ago. Top amateur jockey booked and rates highly. EMBASSY GARDENS (2) won by 10L a G3 Novice Chase at Naas tackling 5000m. Likely to enjoy this stamina test. SALVADOR ZIGGY (6) was second in the Pertemps Final handicap hurdle at this Festival last year. Showed ability with fences and holds claims. KILBEG KING (4) produced a smart head second tackling the 4800m G2 Reynoldstown Novices Chase at Ascot. Might feature.
