Polytrack racing will take a short break at Kranji after this Sunday’s mixed-surface meeting with the upcoming re-waxing works scheduled for the alternative surface.

The main track (Track 2) will be closed from February 5 to 19 to allow workers and the specialised plant and equipment to carry out the works. Similar works are already underway on Track 6 which was closed on Friday after trackwork, and will not be reopened until Sunday.

Polytrack manufacturer Martin Collins Enterprise has been at work since Wednesday with its engineers Mick Bowlds (pictured above manning the machinery) and Philip William busy setting up the machinery made up of a hot wax tanker, tractor-mounted power harrow and a hot wax sprayer.

Singapore Turf Club Tracks manager K Philip Thomas is supervising the procedure and could not have been more pleased with the progress thus far.

“It’s all going very well. The specialised wax supplied by Martin Collins Enterprise is melted up to about 120 C overnight in the hot wax tanker,” said Mr Philip.

“The wax is then transferred in to the hot wax sprayer, after which it will be towed on to the track and the spraying takes place soon after.

“The tractor-mounted power harrow then comes in to mix it up into the existing Polytrack material, and is run a few times to ensure a thorough mix.”

With Track 2 closing from Monday, trainers have already been informed of alternative arrangements for trackwork and barrier trials until further notice. Slow work will be restricted to Track 4 while fast work and barrier trials will be conducted on Track 6.

Turf races will take place at the meetings on February 10, 12, 17, 19 and 24 with Polytrack races returning at the mixed-surface meeting on March 3.
