After a two-week delay due to inclement weather and technical issues, the re-waxing works on the main Polytrack proper finally got underway on Saturday.

To allow Polytrack manufacturer Martin Collins Enterprise to proceed with the specialised process, the main track (Track 2) is expected to be closed until Tuesday before reopening on Wednesday. Plastic sheets were laid out on Friday to protect the surface from rain.

“We have covered the inside of Track 2 with black plastic sheet to prevent it form getting wet. We need a dry surface for the wax to stick to the Polytrack material,” said Singapore Turf Club Tracks manager K Philip Thomas.

Workers lay out plastic sheets to protect the Polytrack in readiness for the re-waxing process.

A special wax formula is melted up to about 120 C overnight in a hot wax tanker before being poured into a hot wax sprayer. It is then towed onto the track where it is evenly sprayed before a tractor-mounted power harrow mixes it up with the Polytrack through several passes. Similar works have already been completed on Track 6.

With the closure of Track 2, trainers have already been informed of alternative arrangements for trackwork and barrier trials until further notice.

Slow work will be restricted to Track 4 while fast work and barrier trials will be conducted on Track 6. Only the Official Race Test (ORT) on February 28 (Tuesday) will be held on the outside of Track 1 (turf).
