A double at Kranji last night has taken Mark Walker two wins clear in the race for the Singapore trainers’ title.

Success with the New Zealand-bred pair of Major Tom and Clutha Lad took the expatriate Kiwi horseman to 21 winners for the season, with the defending champion Alwin Tan on 19.

Major Tom is a son of Darci Brahma, while the seven-year-old Clutha Lad is by Thorn Park.

Walker has the Singapore Three-Year-Old Challenge in mind for Major Tom, but said he would need to keep going through his grades to earn a berth.

“He will not run in the first leg, he will go to the 1400 and 1600-metre legs, but he has to peak at the right time for these races,” he said.

New Zealand-breds won 10 of the 20 races conducted in Singapore over the weekend.
