After three placings from as many starts, Crazy Dreams finally opened his account with a slashing all-the-way win in the $35,000 Open Maiden race over 1000m on Friday night.

One of the best away in the 12-horse field, the Oratorio three-year-old was quick to secure pole position from his middle barrier before dropping anchor.

Behind him, Speedy Nancho (Saifudin Ismail) was already reaching for the oxygen mask as Crazy Dreams carted the field into the home straight. Sabik (Michael Rodd) and Dontlookdownonme (Vlad Duric) were the only ones within striking distance, but the moment Woodworth let rip, they were left clutching at straws.

Sent out as the $15 joint-favourite Crazy Dreams romped in to score by a widening margin of four lengths from Sabik with Dontlookdownonme third another half-a-length away. The other $15 favourite King Of War (Craig Grylls) ran fourth another 1 ¾ lengths away. The winning time was 59.59 seconds for the 1000m on the Polytrack.

Tan said Crazy Dreams had been knocking on the door but needed to lead to have the best chance of getting off the mark.

“At last! He’s been running well and is quite consistent, so I expected him to put in a good run tonight,” said the Singaporean handler.

“He can jump really fast and when Benny was able to let him go forward from the middle gate (six), I knew he would be hard to beat.

“He’s a very nervous horse and that’s why he wears the hood all the time. He’s been improving with each run, but I think he’s a typical 1000m-1100m horse and will keep him at those distances for now.

“It’s great for the owners, who are good friends with Good News’ owners, and it’s also great for me to get another winner after Double Cash two weeks ago because I had to wait for three long months since my last win (Good News) before Double Cash won.”

With that maiden win and his one second and two thirds under the belt, Crazy Dreams has seen his earnings shoot past the $45,000 mark for the Water Tower Stable.

Woodworth reported that he did not have to do much in Crazy Dream’s stroll, just point him in the right direction.

“This is my third time riding this horse. He’s always shown plenty of speed at his previous races and once I cut across to find the lead, I was quite confident he could go all the way,” said the Malaysian hoop.

“We had a soft lead in front, and turning for home, I still had plenty of horse under me. He won easily.”
