Trainer Tan Hor Khoon won’t keep fond memories of the season underway, but if there is one horse that kicked up his adrenalin rush now and again, it has to be Crazy Dreams.

The bold frontrunner is bidding for a third win on the bounce for the Singaporean trainer, having already contributed to two of his paltry haul of nine winners this campaign.

The Oratorio four-year-old was ultra-impressive at his maiden win in an Open Maiden race over 1000m on July 28. He was then backed off for six weeks before again making all in a Class 4 race over 1000m.

Loath to change a winning formula, Tan sticks to the same Polytrack speed scamper for Crazy Dreams’ next assignment, the 1000m, but admits it may be a different kettle of fish this time.

“The horse has pulled up well and seems to have maintained his condition, but this is a tougher race this time,” said Tan.

“He’s not an easy horse to ride either. He’s very nervous and that’s why he wears earmuffs.

“He pulls hard like a train, especially when another horse comes near him or if he is behind one, he grabs the bit.

“That’s why I prefer to stick to Benny Woodworth as he really knows how to ride him.”

Tan looks up to Crazy Dreams as the rare spark in an otherwise drab season, but doubts he will make it to greater heights at Kranji.

“He’s clearly the stable star, as the others have been very ordinary this year, but I think he’s also limited,” said Tan.

“Maybe just a Class 4 sort and distance-wise, I don’t think he can go beyond 1000m for now. As he gets older, if he learns to settle better, he may able to step up to slightly longer trips.

“He’s been good to us. The owners who are partners with Good News’ owners, are enjoying a good run, long may it continue.”
