Singapore Guineas contender Lord O’Reilly lit up an otherwise quiet Thursday morning with the only turf workout of the day.

With the Singapore Turf Club opening the turf track for any working gallops before a big feature race meeting like Saturday’s – which also hosts the $1.5 million Invitational Group 1 Kranji Mile (1600m) and the $1 million Group 1 Lion City Cup (1200m) – trainer Leslie Khoo decided to make the most of the service.

The O’Reilly three-year-old already galloped on Tuesday, but the former top jockey thought the two-time winner (1200m and 1400m) could use one last wind-opener to top him off.

Alysha Collett and Lord O'Reilly complete their morning canter on the turf track.

Ridden by newly-licensed Kiwi jockey Alysha Collett, who gives way for her elder brother, Sydney-based rider Jason Collett on Saturday, Lord O’Reilly ambled around his spin looking fit as a fiddle.

It was nothing too strenuous as the athletic individual strode along comfortably even if Collett had to restrain him at times as he probably felt like letting rip with that wide green expanse all to himself.

“He already galloped on Tuesday and this morning was just an extra workout I wanted to give him,” said Khoo.

“The grass track is open on such big weeks and I thought why not take advantage of that to sharpen him up.

“Alysha was happy with the way he moved and now we’ll wait for her brother!”

Khoo was, however, less upbeat when talking about his luck of the draw, or lack thereof. The MA Racing Stable-owned galloper has drawn the second worst alley in 15.

“He’s drawn 15. It’s no good, but luckily it’s a 1600m race, so he will have the backstraight to hopefully find a good spot with cover,” said Khoo.

“It’s about 300m long to the first turn and it should be okay. There is enough time.”

With the bulk of the work put to bed, Khoo said he would just send Lord O’Reilly for a swim on Friday morning.
