After Scooby Dooby Doo came through her debut run in the first Leg of the Singapore Golden Horseshoe series in good shape, trainer Saimee Jumaat decided why not roll the dice again in the second Leg this Sunday.

The former top hoop originally thought a gap of two weeks between runs would not suit a two-year-old filly, but the daughter of former Singapore three-year-old champion Gingerbread Man has shown from her work at home she was ready to do battle again.

Fifth on debut in the Kranji Nursery Stakes (1000m) on May 18, Scooby Dooby Doo will be along with the impressive winner Pennywise and Giant Killing (second-last) the only three from the first Leg to front up for the second Leg, the $90,000 Magic Millions National Yearling Sale Stakes over 1100m on Polytrack.

Despite being trapped three deep in the Kranji Nursery Stakes, Scooby Dooby Doo was not a spent force inside the last two furlongs for Alan Munro. She stuck on gamely to finish four and a half lengths off Pennywise.

Saimee has no intention of setting the Joe Singh-owned filly through all the first four Legs leading up towards the $325,000 Group 2 Aushorse Golden Horseshoe (1200m) on July 13, but at the same time, he is aware she needs to prove she has what it takes to make the cut in the grand final.

“It was an encouraging run from that filly in the first Leg, even if Munro said she still did a couple of things wrong,” said the former eight-time Singapore champion jockey.

“I must say it’s a little early to back up, but she’s pulled up well. In saying this, she needs to qualify for the final Leg, and we thought we’d need to get her running again.

“Hopefully, she can back up. Looking at the way she attacked the line and hit the line in the first Leg tells me the 1100m would be even better for her.

“Obviously, she cannot run in all five Legs. She will need a let-up and the plan is to eventually make it for the Aushorse Golden Horseshoe.”

Saimee has this time booked the services of Malaysian jockey A’Isisuhairi Kasim on Scooby Dooby Doo. The pair will, however, jump from the outermost alley in 11.

Though he also has a few other horses in the juvenile ranks, like Abraj, an Argentinian-bred, it looks like Scooby Dooby Doo will be his only stable banner in the two-year-old series this year.

“The others are not ready yet. Scooby Dooby Doo will be the only one to run in the series this year,” he said.

“She has come on from that first run and there is no reason why she cannot improve further.”
