Class prevailed in the $80,000 Class 3 race over 1400m with Tesoro Privado giving his rivals no chance of a look-in on Friday night.

The Titanium Racing Stable-owned galloper was one of the leading protagonists in this year’s Singapore Three-Year-Old Challenge when prepared by trainer Ricardo Le Grange. Even if he could not add his name to any of the three Legs, he lost no admirers, when finishing not that far behind winners Mister Yeoh and Mr Clint in the Group 2 Singapore Three-Year-Old Classic (1400m) and the Group 1 Singapore Guineas (1600m) respectively.

Running for the first time for trainer Lee Freedman and resuming since his Guineas fourth, Tesoro Privado ($8) proved he was made of another metal against his Class 3 rivals.

From the outset, jockey Michael Rodd, who was riding him for the first time, took no chances by bouncing him out to post him just off the pacesetter Why Not (Benny Woodworth). Tesoro Privado lobbed along from that point, looking full of running, before eventually parting company once he was given full bore down the home straight.

Showing a devastating acceleration, the Argentinian-bred by Orpen careered away to a three-length win from Star Empire (Ryan Curatolo) with Galileo’s Approach third another short head away. The winning time was 1min 22secs for the 1400m on the Short Course.

“He had good solid form when he came to us. I was very pleased with his work,” said Freedman.

“This win will be a confidence booster for him. He can still show a bit of improvement as I felt he wasn’t fully screwed down tonight, but he’s done enough to win.”

Rodd said he was confident the chestnut’s handy 3YO campaign form would put him in good stead for a victorious outing under the new regime.

“He was very impressive tonight. His lead-up to the big 3YO races was very good, he’s always come out and run well,” said the Australian jockey.

“Cliffy (Brown) had a few nice horses in these races, and this kind of form always holds up.

“He’s a horse with good natural speed, who can race up on the speed and switch off – that’s the type of horse we need in Singapore. He will improve further from tonight’s run.”

With that fourth win coupled with the stakes earned from his six placings, Tesoro Privado has taken his prizemoney to the region of $290,000 for the Titanium Racing Stable of Jeffrey Soh.
