It was a torrid on-the-pace paw wrestle that decided the outcome of Thursday’s $40,000 The Fitz Sports Bar NZ Oaks.

It was Cosmic Odette who prevailed at the business end for local trainer John McInerney. She jumped straight into the race lead from the two trap and she was hotly pursued by the Ray Adcock prepared Eagle Tee. These two duelled for the race lead going down the back straight where Eagle Tee eased herself marginally in front.

Not to be denied Cosmic Odette came again, digging in real deep which saw her mastering Eagle Tee to ultimately win the Group 1 520m event by a 1.75 length margin. She clocked 30.51s for her 520m assignment. “Yes, it was a great result for the team (McInerney),” commented Johnathon McInerney adding, “She won it from the traps.”

Eagle Tee was brave when claiming her second, while the Dave and Jean Fahey-trained race favourite Fair Pippa ran on solidly for her third placing a further 2.5 lengths behind.
