Qualifying for the Frompro Amazing Chase continues in the final weeks leading up to the 30 July event. Leaderboards at the three qualifying tracks are taking shape in preparation for the big event that will be held at Auckland’s Manukau Sports Bowl. The Amazing Chase will consist of four 527m races and will see two greyhounds race against each other and the clock.

A radical change to the Hatrick qualifying positions occurred at the day meeting in Wanganui on Friday. The first qualifying time was recorded Friday at the big ticket Addington meeting, and there were additional changes to the Manukau leaderboard on Sunday.

Wanganui - Hatrick Raceway

Friday saw a rare afternoon meeting held in Wanganui and with warmer temperatures forecasted, trainer Matt Roberts decided to solo trial Cawbourne Trixy ($16 – TAB Futures, option 986) for her Amazing Chase qualifying time. Cawbourne Trixy flew through her 520m assignment in a swift 29.77s and in doing so landed the current number one position on the Hatrick Raceway leaderboard.

Trainer Lisa Cole watched her promising chaser, Bigtime Paddy ($21) scamper through his 520m task in a slippery 29.79s, taking the title for his C1/2 520 event.

Christchurch - Addington Raceway

The Amazing Chase qualifying process for Christchurch’s Addington Raceway began Friday evening in the Barron’s Supplies South Island Champs race. Tom Tee ($5) jumped straight to the top of the Addington table with his powerful 30.19s run, securing victory for trainer Ray Adcock.

Opawa Shackley ($12), trained by Dave and Jean Fahey, secured the second qualifying time posted during the South Island Champs, timing in at 31.02s.

Auckland - Manukau Raceway

Westworld ($12) took a strong win at the Manukau open class 527m event on Sunday afternoon. His 30.55s winning time on the 527m track pleased trainer Ben Craik and advanced him into second place on the Manukau table. Westworld nudged trainer Denis Schofield’s hound, Lochinvar Brogue ($8), into third place although still sitting in a final field position with a recorded 30.59s time.

Riding Shotgun ($3.50) sits on top at the northern headquarters with his smart 30.22s run for Karen Walsh.
