Greyhound Racing New Zealand (GRNZ) have contracted Oxford Kennels as a short term kennelling partner for the South Island, effective immediately.

Situated in the country just 6km out of Oxford, Canterbury, Oxford Kennels offer a beautiful environment where the greyhounds will be able to enjoy the outdoors and socialize with other dogs as they transition to pet life. Oxford Kennels have 12 kennels set aside for the sole purpose of housing greyhounds who are ready for rehoming. Vern and Anne Whiting, owners and managers of Oxford Kennels, have over 30 years experience working with and looking after dogs, and also have had a long involvement in greyhound racing.

This is initially a short term arrangement to cover rehoming in the South Island. Dr Mairi Stewart, Head of Welfare at GRNZ states “We are delighted that Oxford Kennels have agreed to come on board. Their facilities are fantastic and provide the perfect environment for our greyhounds. While this is a short term measure we are focused on increasing the capacity in the South Island long term.”

Tracy Doe will work with Oxford Kennels and will manage the waiting lists, the assessments and liaising with trainers and the rehoming partners.

To enter your hound into the Oxford Kennels, please email Tracy directly at grnzhubsi@gmail.com with your name, location and how many dogs you are wishing to rehome approx per year. Tracy will then send you the process for entering the dogs into the programme. She will endeavour to contact each one of you to touch base and introduce herself over the next couple of weeks.
