It’s straight into Group racing to kick start the new racing season at the Hatrick Raceway with heats being held for two Black type events. The 520m chasers will contest three 520m heats for the Wanganui Cup at Group 1 level, while the stayers front up for a pair of Group 2 755m Wanganui Stayers heats

Wanganui Cup, heat 1 – race 8
1 Soaring Hawke $18 & $5: This girl has contested two previous Group 1 finals and she returns to this venue where she has earned a stake in all nine of her previous 520m races at. She owns tidy looking trap 1 stats and she has produced solid recent on the pace Manukau races.

2 Bigtime Twinkle $26 & $7: She has boldly stepped up to 520m racing after advancing through the grades in short course sprints. Her 520m second last Friday contained merit and her qualifying prospects here cannot be lightly dismissed.

3 Bigtime Paddy $2.20 & $2.30: There’s else that can be said about this absolute professional canine athlete. His slippery 29.85s Amazing Chase victory simply confirmed what an amazing chaser this bloke is.

4 Panel Beater $31 & $8: Canterbury visitor who has been racing in strong recent Addington 520m and 645m fields. An illustration of that was his gallant South Island Championship 520m second placing three races ago. He adds interest for his track debut outing here.

5 Cawbourne Trixy $61 & $16: She found herself being shuffled back to the rear group where she stayed when she contested last week’s Amazing Chase Consolation. She does own strength however it’s likely she’ll be reliant on receiving early racing luck if she’s going to feature here.

6 Me Jane $31 & $8: This January Cambridge 457m Group 2 winner has since dropped back into the C4 chasing ranks. She has no option but to use the known early pace she owns to secure the early race lead here.

7 It’s A Threat: She received a racing stand down on Monday

8 Invasion $81 & $18: This fella adds the intrigue factor to this heat. He recently provided his new trainer with his first TAB winner when he stylishly prevailed over the Manukau 318m dash. He’s stepping up in race distance for his track debut assignment here.

9 Blazin’ Audrey $14 & $4: She’s likely to jump from trap 7 here. She has been kept very safe by the TAB Bookies after having been last sighted on Wentworth Park, Sydney over 520m. She’s goes into a strong kennel.

Wanganui Cup, heat 2 – race 9
1 Nature’s Gent $5 & $2: The New Zealand Cup winner indicated he’s approaching top form again when he finished as the 30s Amazing Chase runner up last Friday. He has won all four of his previous races from this trap and he owns a smart 29.68s best 520m winning time on this track.

2 Snoop Junior $151 & $31: He hasn’t been sighted since he contested a Group 1 520m heat when he was making his track debut here back in January. He is now graded as a C4 chaser for his new trainer.

3 Too The Nail $61 & $15: He arrives at this venue for his track debut outing after he produced a bold on the pace Group 2 457m third at Ascot Park on Tuesday. He lost second by just a nose margin. His race fitness will be getting right up there now after having commenced his NZ racing over the Addington 295m sprint.

4 Bigtime Tears $26 & $7: She holds a Group 1 title at this venue, so she commands automatic respect on that factor. That win came in a very quick 29.84s. Completely overlook her luckless Monday 457m race.

5 Bigtime Forest $81 & $18: He was relegated out of the open class chasing ranks following his traffic impeded Monday 457m outing. He has a tough draw to contend with for this event.

6 Cawbourne Krusty $9 & $3: She was solid when she clocked the third quickest Amazing Chase 520m time at 30.07s last Friday. She also owns a quick 29.80s best 520m time here, which she delivered when winning her Group 1 title here.

7 Tyson’s Quest $81 & $18: He has contested a pair of open class 305m sprints on this track since returning from his completely luckless Manukau Group 2 527m attempt. He is proven in the lower grades over 520m, however drawing out here has made it tougher for him.

8 Ask King Jeff $12 & $3.40: This fella has been delivering competitive recent races when finishing just in behind some classy chasers in strong fields. His bold Amazing Chase fourth placing confirms those thoughts. He is provided with swooping claims from out here.

Wanganui Cup, heat 3 – race 10
1 Idol Tom $18 & $4.20: He is a notoriously slow starter, who owns a punishing finish. He is likely to relish hopping away from this trap as he can be expected to hold the rail throughout in this event.

2 Waitohi $16 & $4.20: Geez, what a stunning 520m effort this girl put in when this C3 graded chaser rocketed for her strong Amazing Chase Consolation 520m second placing last Friday. In saying that she can make her qualifying claims easier for herself by making a better beginning here.

3 Quistis Bale $31 & $7.50: She hasn’t been sighted since she delivered her June 8 pace making C4/5 30.44s 520m win here. She trialled over 305m three weeks ago when she ran a 4.75 length fourth in a sprint run in 17.64s. She must find the early pace here.

4 Bigtime Wendle $41 & $10: She was involved in a torrid on the pace open class 520m race last Friday that ultimately saw her prevailing in 30.42s. She then settled just in behind the pace where she remained throughout for her 457m Monday fourth.

5 Egomaniacal $26 & $7: He’s returning here after he made an early mistake, which he didn’t recover from in Tuesday’s Ascot Park Group 2 457m event. He is proven over 520m at Addington, however he has missed in two previous 520m races on this track.

6 All About Space $81 & $16: She’s facing her toughest career test in this event after she won a Manawatu C3 457m race in 26.09s two ago. She was then run down late when she contested her bonus C3 race over 520m.

7 Bigtime Liam $81 & $16: He hasn’t been picking the jump lately, as seen in his Manawatu 457m Monday race, which is proving to be a rather costly tactic for him to use.

8 Bigtime Jason $81 & $16: He set up the initial pace when he returned to C5 racing over 457m on Monday. He was hauled back in during the run home there. He has no option but to try to lead this field into the first turn.

1 Tullabung Googar $31 & $7: He hasn’t won a staying race yet and that isn’t likely to change in this heat. He was a 779m Silver Collar finalist where he finished fifth after having run fourth in his heat.

2 Cawbourne Taylor $3.80 & $1.60: She warmed up for this assignment by delivering a powerful finish to nail her 38.31s 645m Friday win. That effort indicated that she’ll strip spot on for this 755m task after having finished third to race rival here Phantom Way in her previous 755m outing.

3 Opawa Tab: She has been withdrawn from the TAB markets.

4 Phantom Way $13 & $3.20: She’s 4.5 year old stayer who still has what it takes in the staying ranks as evidenced by her stylish last start win 45.35s 755m win here. That says respect her in this heat.

5 Iris Allen $31 & $7: She has produced mixed recent results over the Manawatu 660m distance. This is her first taste of 755m racing since she crossed the Tasman. She didn’t place in her Victorian 700m plus races.

6 Nitehawk Rose $16 & $4: She’s a proven 755m stayer around this circuit who is resuming after she had a hiccup when she contested her 779m Silver Collar heat. Her record of securing a stake, including in Group races, in all five of her 755m races here demands respect.

7 Mija Sydney $8 & $2.50: This bloke has finally turned into a much more consistent chaser lately as seen by his potent recent Manawatu 660m efforts, which has seen him storming home late. That says he’s ready to take the step up to 755m racing here.

8 Translator $12 & $3.20: She must be completely frustrated about drawing out here. She’s a proven long distance chaser, who operates best when sighted racing alongside the rail. She was real brave when she delivered her last start Forbury Park second over 770m.

Wanganui Stayers, heat 2 – race 5

1 Verta Bale $18 & $4: She finished solidly when claiming her bold 645m second here last Friday. It was a tidy prior effort she produced when also finishing second over 755m, which was also the same placing she held in her 660m race before that.

2 Dusty Gambler $2.10 & $1.25: The Silver Collar runner up stylishly won his April Wanganui Distance 755m heat and he then went onto to easily win the Group 1 final. He commands absolute respect in this heat.

3 Tranquil Blossom $18 & $4: She’s a Group 1 winning 755m stayer at this venue who hasn’t really returned to that form lately. In saying that her qualifying claims cannot be dismissed as she has been there and done that in staying events.

4 Cawbourne Zulu $51 & $11: She occupied the rear group all the way when she raced over 755m here two ago. She also missed in her Friday 645m outing here.

5 Box Vacant

6 Opawa Abby Joy $21 & $5: She’s a promising up and coming Canterbury trained stayer who raced just behind the pace makers throughout in her last Forbury Park 770m race. She is likely to suit racing over 755m on this track.

7 Pirate’s Curse $21 & $4.50: This fella sure is a curse for his connections! He detests racing with others racing around him. His last start effort to finish third, when he flicked on the turbo chargers in his Forbury Park 770m race was simply astonishing.

8 Electric Lotto $26 & $6: She is a proven stayer, however her lack of recent racing isn’t going to assist her when the pressure goes on here. She did finish strongly when she delivered her last start Manukau C2 527m win in 31s.
