Kiwi Boy is sharp – very, very sharp. He displayed that talent when he tore apart his Kiwi bred sprinting rivals in Sunday’s $8,500 NZRS Sprint final over the 318m dash at the Manukau Stadium. His swift 18.18s personal best time told the story of this sprint final.

The win was a continuation of Kiwi Boy’s consistent Manukau 318m track form with this win being his 16th from his 25 sprints (four placings) at the Auckland headquarters for his conditioners Jared Udy and Denise Cottam.

The Dinny Syndicate owned Kiwi Boy stylishly kicked clear once he balanced up after exiting from the supposedly tricky five trap. The James Black bred son of Kilty Lad and Kiwi Girl put in a couple big bounds and that effectively took the thick end of the stake away from his rivals as seen by his eventual three length winning margin. That assured Black of the winning bonus portion of the stake.

There was a group of sprinters chasing after the minor portions of the stake it was the Ben Craik prepared Alyeska who proved the strongest of the others when this son of Fabre Gas and Katcha Fire finished solidly for his runner up position.

Idol Hot also helped herself to a slice of the Breeders’ bonus dollars attached to this race when, after jumping from the eight trap, she gamely pushed her way around the outer with this Marcie Flipp prepared daughter Fabregas and Idol Girl winding up a further 1.25 lengths behind for her third placing.

This win was all about Kiwi Boy who advanced his stake earnings out to $27,177, with all of his 16 career wins being at the Manukau Stadium. He has placed on a further eight occasions. That tally looks more than likely to rapidly expand when taking into account his strong developing affinity with the Manukau track.

There was a strong Auckland support card to the Waterloo Cup meeting which saw closely contested competitive racing throughout the afternoon – here’s a pictorial round up of those other winners.

Jetsun Paint Jetson Doll Bear Claws
Local trainer Gordon Wilson enjoyed a successful afternoon winning two races with Jetsun Paint (left) taking out the opening C1 318m dash, then three races later he produced Jetsun Doll to stylishly win her C1 527m event. The Sandown Park racing & media manager Mick Floyd made the trip across the Tasman and he’s pictured here with Melissa and Tracy Steele after Bear Claws won the Sandown GRC Stakes for them.

Blitz Em Rene Mad Harry Farrells
In a hint of what was to follow later it was Blitz ‘Em Rene (left) who regained her open class sprinting stripes when she took out the C4 318m sprint for her trainers Jared Udy and Denise Cottam; Sean Codlin also got the winning feeling when he produced Mad Harry to win the C2/3 318m sprint; it was an all Glennis Farrell trained podium following the C3 527m event. Winner Draxler is flanked by his kennelmates Go Angel (second) and Yooldome (third)

Beltom Cameo Syd Sassy Lil Lassy All Hail Ceaser
It was a pair of Ben Craik trained greyhounds who went race back to back with firstly Beltom taking out her C2 527m race, pictured here with handlers Georgie Milne and Melissa, then it was Cameo Syd who prevailed in what was basically the Waterloo Cup consolation 527m event in the C4/5 527m race; Sassy Lil Lassy has really made a quick impression by winning six of her ten career races which included her C3 318m win here for her owner/trainer Michael Schneider; prevailing in the last race on the card in the C1 318m sprint was All Hail Caesar who became the third winner on the day for Jared Udy and Denise Cottam
