It’s a Lisa Cole dominated final field that will contest Friday’s running of the $12,000 NZRS Advanced final (race 10) after two 520m heats held last Friday sorted out the finalists. Nine of the ten listed greyhounds in this final are mentored from the Palmerston North based kennels and interestingly all of those greyhounds are all from different litters.

Bigtime Homie was the quickest heat winner for the New Zealand bred greyhounds via his 30.16s heat time, while Bigtime Rod delivered his heat win in 30.56s. However don’t be surprised if All About Space opens as the race favourite despite finishing a 1.5 length heat second to Bigtime Homie.

This daughter of Above All and Spot On Maggie was mightily impressive when she delivered her 25.68s effortless Manawatu Monday 457m win, which was considerably quicker than what Monday’s Group 2 457m race was run in (25.82s). Being allocated the one trap has certainly enhanced her claims in this event.

That was a huge effort by the C4 graded chaser Bigtime Homie when he controlled the pace all the way when scampering to his tidy 30.16s heat win, which was a personal best clock. This son of Premier Fantasy and Sweet As Bro then found himself jammed up in midfield traffic during his Monday 457m outing. He must bounce straight into the race lead from his tricky five trap draw.

The 30.56s heat winning time that Bigtime Rod recorded was more of a reflection in the way the heat was contested, with a degree of jostling being experienced. This son of Bekim Bale and Mammy Brown has been Group 1 520m placed at this venue plus he also owns a sharp 29.91s best winning 520m time around this circuit. He will slot away into trap two for this decider after he was sighted whacking away soundly for his Monday Group 2 457m fourth placing.

Also contesting Monday’s Group 2 final was Bigtime Archie which saw this son of Spring Gun and Night Pearl being checked when heading into the big, sweeping bend which ended any claims he held in that event. In his heat he overcame a degree of jostling on the first turn to snatch his place in this field via his 6.25 length heat fourth to Bigtime Rod. He must jump straight onto the pace from trap four here.

 .

It was a bold heat effort by Bigtime Tank when the little fella gamely stuck to his heat task when racing wide from where he pushed forward to secure his 2.5 length heat second to Bigtime Rod. Drawing the six trap hasn’t really aided the claims held by this C4 graded son of Fabregas and Kissing Gwyneth.

Bigtime Bruno settled in behind the pace and this son of Spring Gun and Serena Rose kicked on soundly when he delivered his 2.25 length heat third to Bigtime Homie. He also must place himself in a handy to the pace position when rounding the first turn after he hops away from trap seven here.

Bigtime Fred overcame a slow start to push forward to ultimately finish up 5.25 lengths behind Bigtime Rod in his heat. This vastly experienced son of Kilty Lad and Romberg Lass has no option but to make a better start here from the three trap here.

Tyson’s Quest can be forgiven for feeling intimidated in this feature being the only non-Cole trained runner in the listed ten greyhounds. This son of Blitzing Mayhem and Vicki’s Quest is prepared by the Wanganui GRC President Brian Marsh.

The prospects held for him got even tougher after he drew the eight trap. He raced from that trap in his last two Hatrick 520m outings from where he suffered from early traffic problems. He whacked away for his 4.5 length heat fourth to Bigtime Homie. He does own a fair degree of early pace and it is essential that he uses that asset during the charge into the all-important first turn.

Bigtime Caleb raced wide in his heat which saw him plugging away for his heat fifth which sees this son of Collision and Darlyne Ottey occupying the first possie on the reserves bench. He then battled away for his Monday C4 410m third.

Trojan Hoarse tried to get handy to the early pace in his heat, however he was hindered when heading into the first turn which resulted in him being held in midfield traffic. He then set up the pace in Monday’s Group 2 457m final from where he finished a bold close up third. This dual Group 1 winner demands respect if the son of Fernando Bale and Ocotillo is racing here. He has drawn to contest the race 8 open class 520m event from trap eight.

Pawnote: Adding interest to this meeting is the NZ debut outing that will be made by She’s For Us from the Matt Roberts kennels. She trialed up here over 305m in a handy 17.55s last Friday. She’ll contest the race 6 C3/4 520m event from the two trap where she will clock an Amazing Chase qualifying time here.

Up at the Manukau on Sunday afternoon will see the Jared Udy and Denise Cottam prepared pair of kennel mates Kiwi Gal and Jinja Might also chasing after Amazing Chase qualifying times when they contest the race 10 open class 527m event.

The Jared Udy and Denise Cottam kennels has been firing great guns lately as seen when the couple brought up 100 training wins for the current season last Sunday. Their kennel runners Kiwi Gal (left) and Jinja Might will post Amazing Chasing qualifying times on Sunday
