The San Antonio Spurs' recent decision to waive guard Joshua Primo stems from multiple alleged incidents of him exposing himself to women, per ESPN. The Spurs announced on Friday their decision to release the No. 12 overall pick from the 2021 NBA Draft, and San Antonio head coach Gregg Popovich declined to offer an explanation for the team's decision. The team's official statement also didn't offer any specific reason for the release.

NEW YORK -- Brooklyn Nets guard Kyrie Irving doubled down Saturday night after sharing social media posts about a film full of antisemitic tropes two days earlier.

With Joel Embiid sidelined due to right knee injury recovery, the Philadelphia 76ers needed someone else to step up against the Toronto Raptors on Friday night, and Tyrese Maxey was ready to do so. After starting the season 1-4 and previously dropping a game in Toronto on Wednesday, the Sixers were in search of a bounce back win. Maxey knew that, and he absolutely exploded. 

Brooklyn Nets owner Joe Tsai and the organization itself issued rebukes of Kyrie Irving on Friday after the team's All-Star point guard took to social media a day earlier to promote an antisemitic book and film.  

For the first time since his rookie season in 2008, Russell Westbrook participated in a regular-season NBA game that he did not start on Friday as his Los Angeles Lakers were defeated by the Minnesota Timberwolves 111-102. What was the first thing he did when he entered the game with roughly seven minutes remaining in the first quarter? He attacked the basket.

When the Philadelphia 76ers dropped their first two games of the 2022-23 season to two legitimate contenders in the Boston Celtics and Milwaukee Bucks, the concern level was pretty low. It was the beginning of the season, and the Sixers were trying to incorporate several new pieces while those teams had the advantage of continuity. When the Sixers lost their third game of the season to the rebuilding San Antonio Spurs, eyebrows were raised, but the team then got the first win of the season over the upstart Indiana Pacers, and there was a sense of relief. 

MILWAUKEE -- Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks had a first half to forget on Wednesday night, but instead of trying to push it out of their memory, they used it as fuel to power a dominant second-half turnaround. Down by 12 at the break, they outscored the Brooklyn Nets by 23 points the rest of the way en route to a 110-99 win that ensured they remained the only undefeated team in the league at 3-0.

Patrick Beverley was surprisingly optimistic about the state of the Lakers' offense after Wednesday's 110-99 loss to the Denver Nuggets. "Well I think we were shooting 20 percent, and today we shot 26 percent," Beverley told reporters. "So we got better." Technically, he was correct. The Lakers shot 8-of-30 from deep against the Nuggets for a conversion rate of 26.7 percent. Amazingly, that was the best shooting night of the season for the Lakers, who never topped 25 percent from long distance in their first three games.

Prior to the start of the regular season our CBS Sports staff selected the Utah Jazz to finish 15th in the Western Conference. That wasn't abnormal thinking around the league, given the Jazz traded their two franchise cornerstones in Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert this past offseason in an effort to press reset on the franchise's future.

New Orleans Pelicans star Zion Williamson will be listed as questionable for the team's matchup with the Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday night with a posterior hip contusion. Herbert Jones (knee) will also be questionable, while Brandon Ingram has been placed in the concussion protocol after all three suffered injuries in the team's loss to the Utah Jazz on Sunday. 

After a season-opening loss to the Warriors in which the Lakers missed 30 of their 40 3-point attempts, LeBron James morphed into Captain Obvious when he offered the following quote: "To be completely honest, we're not a team constructed of great shooting. It's not like we're sitting here with a lot of lasers on our team."

The Los Angeles Lakers have an unbalanced roster. It is comprised largely of smaller guards and big centers, with the mid-size wing positions sorely lacking. This has been a significant issue defensively for them during their 0-2 start, and without some sort of change, it is an issue that is likely to persist throughout the season. The Lakers brought in veteran wing Maurice Harkless for a free agent workout, per Shams Charania, as they look to bolster their depth.

To say the Los Angeles Lakers have struggled to shoot the ball in the early stages of the 2022-23 season would be a tremendous understatement. In their first two games, both losses, they have combined to go 73 for 188 (39 percent) from the field and a dismal 19 for 85 (22 percent) from beyond the 3-point arc.

The overwhelming majority of NBA prognosticators believed that the Los Angeles Lakers needed to make a major trade before the season if they planned to seriously contend for a championship. If there were any doubters, they were converted on opening night, when the Lakers were blown out of the gym by the defending champion Golden State Warriors, 123-109. As currently constructed, this team is simply not capable of contending for a championship. Even LeBron James admitted that they lack shooting.

The Indiana Pacers tipped off their season against the Washington Wizards, but did so without Myles Turner, who was a late scratch after suffering a left ankle sprain moments before the game. Turner landed on the foot of a ball boy in pregame warmups, according to Jake Fischer, and as a result, tweaked his ankle. The untimely accident was significant enough to keep him sidelined for Wednesday night's game and will keep Turner out of the lineup for at least one week, per Shams Charania. 

Trailing the Celtics two games to one in the 2022 NBA Finals, the Warriors, on the road, needed a special Game 4 performance from one of the most special players in history. Stephen Curry obliged with seven 3-pointers en route to a 43-point masterpiece, and the Warriors never looked back, winning the game 107-97 despite trailing with under five minutes to play before taking the series in six. 

SAN FRANCISCO -- The whole thing had kind of a high school graduation feel. But instead of a 16-cent paper diploma from Kinko's, the Golden State Warriors received championship rings -- well, "medallions," as head coach Steve Kerr dubbed them because of their gargantuan girth -- complete with 16 carats of yellow and white diamonds.

Technically, opening night is in the books. The Celtics beat the 76ers. The Warriors beat the Lakers. But is the season really "open" when 26 teams have yet to play? Wednesday is the true opening night, the one in which the majority of NBA teams play their first games and we have our first traditional, cramped slate of the season.

NBA teams have more in common with a typical workplace than many of us would like to believe. While the league is full of strong friendships that transcend the game of basketball, many players simply view their teammates as coworkers. That can even apply to the best players on a team. In an interview with ESPN's Nick Friedell, Ben Simmons revealed that he and former teammate Joel Embiid, the two stars of a fairly successful run for the Philadelphia 76ers, "never really spoke."

Anthony Davis is a center in the minds of pretty much everybody except Anthony Davis. He stated his preference for the power forward position as soon as he arrived in Los Angeles, and while the Lakers have given him minutes at center in high-leverage situations, they have largely preferred to play him along with a traditional big man.

The Portland Trail Blazers will start the regular season without Gary Payton II, as the team announced Thursday afternoon the guard will continue to be sidelined as he recovers from abdominal surgery. Payton underwent surgery in July to address a core muscle injury, and while the Blazers say his rehab continues to "progress well," he'll be out at least two weeks, when he'll then be reevaluated. 

Ben Simmons has received significant criticism on social media over the last few years. The latest incident that sparked negative attention was when the Brooklyn Nets guard-forward airballed a shot during an event for fans in a Brooklyn park on Sunday. 

Former NBA standout Ben Gordon is facing multiple charges after allegedly punching his 10-year-old son in the face at a New York City airport, per TMZ Sports. Gordon, 39, was arrested on Monday night after an American Airlines employee told Port Authority Police that they witnessed the former NBA star hit his son in the face at LaGuardia Airport "multiple times."

The Charlotte Hornets announced on Tuesday that point guard LaMelo Ball had his left ankle sprain confirmed by an MRI and his return to basketball activities will be determined by how he responds to treatment. Shams Charania of The Athletic reported that it is a Grade 2 sprain and that Ball is expected to miss time at the start of the Hornets' season. 

Detroit Pistons forward Marvin Bagley III suffered a bone bruise and right knee sprain and is expected to be out for 3-4 weeks, the team announced on Wednesday. Bagley sustained the injury during the Pistons' preseason game against the Oklahoma City Thunder Tuesday night.

Rarely does it actually work out that way. Many teams simply opt to sit their best players out in the preseason. The norm is to simply limit their minutes, and when those players are on the floor, they usually aren't giving it their all. The game has no stakes, after all.

The 2022 offseason for the Los Angeles Lakers has largely been defined by the things Rob Pelinka hasn't done. He didn't find a Russell Westbrook trade. The Orlando Magic announced Saturday morning that guard Jalen Suggs suffered a left knee capsule sprain and bone bruise after undergoing an MRI. There's no timetable for Suggs' return as it will be dependent upon his response to the treatment.

The second of two head-to-head matchups this week featuring No. 1 prospect Victor Wembanyama and No. 2 prospect Scoot Henderson, the clear (as of now!) prizes of the 2023 NBA Draft class, fizzled a bit late Thursday afternoon with Henderson getting injured in the first half and not returning. But Wembanyama grabbed the spotlight down the stretch in the final exhibition match between his Mets 92 team and the G League Ignite, turning in 36 points and putting on a dazzling display in the process to solidify his standing -- in a way LeBron James might put it -- as the most intriguing alien of next year's draft class.

It's not a matter of if LeBron James passes Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for the No. 1 spot on the NBA's all-time scoring list, it's when. James sits just 1,326 points away from passing the Hall of Famer and Los Angeles Lakers legend, a milestone that should happen at some point this season given James is still performing at peak levels and is coming off a year in which he averaged over 30 points a night. If he averages around the same amount of points as he did a season ago for the Lakers, James could break the record somewhere in the middle of the season, assuming he stays healthy.

The top two prospects in the 2023 NBA Draft will face off two times this week when Victor Wembanyama's Metropolitans 92 team and Scoot Henderson's G League Ignite team meet in exhibition games on Tuesday and Thursday.

With dozens of NBA stars, executives and reportedly around 200 scouts all in attendance Tuesday to watch 7-foot-4 super-prospect Victor Wembanyama face off against Scoot Henderson -- both of whom right now are the clear top two prospects in the 2023 NBA Draft class -- reality somehow exceeded even the much-hyped expectations.

Los Angeles Clippers star Kawhi Leonard is on track to make his return to the court on Monday night in a preseason contest against the Portland Trail Blazers. Prior to the team's opening preseason game against Israeli side Maccabi Ra'anana in Seattle on Friday, Clippers head coach Ty Lue told reporters, "Kawhi will play Monday." 

Steven Adams has agreed to a two-year, $25.2 million contract extension with the Memphis Grizzlies, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. Adams still had one year left on his deal, bringing his total compensation up to $43.1 million over three seasons.

With the Golden State Warriors in Japan for a pair of preseason games against the Washington Wizards, Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson treated fans to a downtown show on Saturday. 

An investigation by an independent law firm commissioned by the Boston Celtics found that head coach Ime Udoka used crude language toward a female subordinate before starting his alleged inappropriate workplace relationship with her, according to Adrian Wojnarowski. Udoka was recently suspended for the entire 2022-23 NBA season over what the team officially called "violations of team policies."

LeBron James and Anthony Davis are going to start for the Los Angeles Lakers when healthy. That much is obvious. But after those two? Things get a bit dicier in the starting lineup. Russell Westbrook was a starter all of last season, but considering the disappointment of missing the play-in, his position is no longer guaranteed. Second-year guard Austin Reaves and trade acquisition Patrick Beverley have been mentioned as candidates to supplant him in the backcourt, whereas Damian Jones and Thomas Bryant are competing for the starting job at center.

The defending champion Golden State Warriors kicked off their 2022-23 preseason slate with a 97-87 victory over the Washington Wizards on Friday in Japan. The box score didn't look pretty for three of Golden State's stars, with Stephen Curry, Andrew Wiggins and Jordan Poole combining to shoot 3 for 25. 

Some mildly optimistic news about Chicago Bulls guard Lonzo Ball: The team is confident that he'll be able to play at some point this season, according to Shams Charania. Ball had his second knee surgery of the calendar year on Wednesday, and he's reportedly going to be sidelined for at least a few months. 

The Golden State Warriors are in Japan for a pair of exhibition games against the Washington Wizards on Friday and Saturday, and on Thursday Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson decided to try their hand at the country's national sport: sumo wrestling. 

Some trades only include two players. Others include eight, like the one executed between the Oklahoma City Thunder and Houston Rockets on Thursday night. The Thunder traded Derrick Favors, Ty Jerome, Theo Maledon and Moe Harkless to the Rockets in exchange for David Nwaba, Sterling Brown, Trey Burke and Marquese Chriss, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski The Thunder, who will additionally acquire two draft exceptions, are also sending Houston a 2025 second-round pick in the deal.
